Meteorology Discussion/Dispersion

  November 30, 2009
MONDAY, November 30 Discussion

Monday looks to be a better day in most areas for smoke dispersion, though it still won't be all that great. The ridge from Sunday will flatten out over MT and N ID (North of the Salmon River corridor) and a very weak disturbance will move east across the area during the afternoon. The slightly strengthening Westerly flow combined with the very weak disturbance should allow for mostly GOOD dispersion to develop by mid day. Precip is not expected with the passage of the disturbance. Southern ID will remain under the influence of the ridge...so POOR to MODERATE conditions will linger over those areas.

Looking ahead...it looks like a persistent ridge scenario (R.o.D.) may develop Tuesday-Friday as the ridge rebuilds along the ID-OR/WA statelines. This will promote very stable conditions and POOR dispersion across all of ID and extreme W MT. Areas along and east of the divide will be under a NW flow which may promote GOOD dispersion in the higher terrain though.
